Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is an annual holiday shopping tradition started by American Express in 2010 to support the Shop Small Movement. In an effort to support their local
communities, organizations across the country sign up to serve as Neighborhood Champions, bringing their communities together with events on Small Business Saturday (the Saturday after Thanksgiving) and throughout the year. The Greater Fort Kent Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to be a part of this campaign.

According to an AMEX-commissioned study 2018 Small Business Economic Impact Study, every time you purchase a hand-made good from a local artist, or shop at a local small business, “an average two-thirds of every dollar ($0.67) spent at small businesses in the U.S. stays in the local community…. Further, every dollar spent at small businesses creates an additional 50 cents in local business activity as a result of employee spending and businesses purchasing local goods and services…”

This season, it’s more important than ever to support the local businesses we love. Since our Annual Holiday Craft Fair had to be cancelled, some owners of Fort Kent small businesses have graciously agreed to host crafters in their stores as part of their own Small Business Saturday promotions. Crafters and their locations are listed on the map. Click the link below to view the map.
